The Equal Importance of Great Fiber Installation Work and Great Customer Service

Alamon HQ, Kalispell, MT

At Alamon, we’re passionate about the communication technology we work with. If we weren’t, it would be hard to do what we do for as long as we have (47 years and counting).

As internet usage and bandwidth demand has grown exponentially, fiber technology and its virtually unlimited data capacity is replacing outdated copper infrastructure as the delivery method for broadband internet.

Dan Dennison, Operations Manager, OSP ServicesA quick rundown of fiber’s many advantages: It’s stronger than copper, faster than copper, has far greater data capacity than copper, and covers longer distances without signal loss.

Fiber uses light to transmit data, so it doesn’t require shielding from electrical interference. This gives those running new fiber the flexibility of being able to install it close to existing transmission lines.

For all its many strengths, fiber becomes most vulnerable when it reaches its destination point at a home or business.

And that’s where Alamon Fiber to the Home Installation Services comes in. Our professional Fiber to the Home (FTTH) installers are experts at making proper splices and ensuring the integrity of all connections during the final phase of installation.

In addition to the physical and technical parts of the job, it’s equally important to work closely with each subscriber and make sure they’re informed and involved in the process. We’re guests in their home, and it’s our job to make the introduction of their new service the best experience it can be.

Our FTTH teams make an assessment of the residence or business and perform the best installation based on each unique location, while following applicable local building and electrical codes. At the same time, we make sure each customer’s specific needs are addressed.

We’re representing our customers to their subscribers, and impressions count. It’s our mission to make the best impression throughout every installation, including during clean-up and as we’re heading down the driveway to the next stop.

About Dan Dennison

Dan has been with Alamon for over 28 years. As Outside Plant Operations Manager, his emphasis on Alamon’s customer-first culture is why our project managers and field technicians consistently generate positive feedback from subscribers and clients.

As work on a U.S. Military base comes to a close, Alamon crews are doing finish work and ensuring all systems are operational in this turnkey project.

One of those final tasks was connecting offices, conference rooms, classrooms, and hangers to a new communications room and an existing one. That includes: pulling cable through conduit to jacks and patch panels, identifying & lacing cable, attaching jacks & faceplates, mounting racks & patch panels. Along the way we used a few tricks to work more efficiently, one of which was getting the cable ran through existing conduits.

Supplies: Pull String, Plastic Bag, Vacuum, Cable.

Instructions:

Tie part of plastic bag to pull string

Feed string into conduit as far as possible

Hold vacuum to other end of conduit

Turn vacuum on until bag reaches vacuum nozzle

Attach cable to pull string

Pull cable through conduit

Attach to patch panel & jacks
