AED: A Heartfelt Addition to Network Services

We are excited to share some important updates that enhance our workplace safety and preparedness at Alamon Network Services.

CPR/AED/First Aid Training Completed

Network Services is proud to announce that our team successfully completed onsite CPR, AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen training this summer through HSI. This training equips 16 employees with lifesaving skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in our department. A big thank you to all who participated for their dedication and commitment to making our workplace safer!

New AED Installed in the Office

In addition to the training, a new HeartSine 350P Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was purchased for Network Services. The AED is located inside Suite 360 at the Carrollton Warehouse and easily accessible in case of an emergency. With the purchase of this AED, one year of complete medical oversight and direction is being provided by AED Total Solution. This subscription includes certified physician oversight and prescription, maintenance checks and record keeping, CPR/AED training certification tracking, local and regional AED registration, and many more services.

Important Statistics

Survival Rates: 9 out of 10 cardiac arrest victims who receive a shock from an AED within the first minute survive.

Workplace Impact: With 10,000 cardiac arrests occurring in the workplace annually, having an AED on-site can double or even triple survival rates.

Protect Yourself From the Heat

With headlines about record-setting high temperatures dominating the news this summer, Alamon’s Safety Team has been providing guidance to our field crews about dealing with and protecting themselves from the heat.

Heat-related illnesses are nothing to take lightly, and can be life threatening. Educate and prepare yourself when your workday involves working in extreme heat.

Preventing Heat Illness

Drink plenty of cold water or electrolyte sports drinks.
Take frequent breaks from work in a cool environment including air conditioned buildings or shaded areas.
Do most strenuous work activities during cooler parts of the day, such as in the morning.
Make sure employees are properly acclimated to warmer climates.
Avoid caffeinated drinks because they can dehydrate the body.
Work with someone else in order to look for signs of heat illness in each other.
Wear light colored breathable clothing if PPE permits.

Heat Exhaustion vs Heat Stroke

Heat Exhaustion

- Symptoms: Fatigue, profuse sweating, muscle cramps, nausea, dizziness

First Aid: Affected individual must rest in a cool, shaded or air conditioned area. Cool her/him by fanning, misting or applying ice packs. If the individual is conscious, give cool water.

Heat Stroke

Symptoms: High body temperature (over 104° F), hot dry skin, nausea, headaches, confusion and possible unconsciousness.
First Aid: Heat stroke is life threatening. Call 911 immediately. Begin cooling measures while waiting for medical personnel.

There’s never a time on any job where safety isn’t important, but when most of your work involves being suspended from a tower hundreds of feet in the air, strict adherence to safety regulations is especially critical.

Alamon’s Safety Supervisor Jessica Hansen and two wireless veterans (Technical Specialist Travis Hansen and Tower Crew Foreman Mark Mertz) recently completed a week-long tower climbing and rigging training course at Pacific Safety Solutions in Vista, CA, and renewed their climbing and rigging certifications.

“I loved it,” Jessica said.

“The training was excellent, and we were required to demonstrate skills with all aspects of climbing and rigging, including techniques for self rescue and rescuing others.”

After executing the necessary climbing and rigging techniques, the Alamon trainees were required to also show they have the knowledge to effectively teach others.

Jessica says Alamon places safety at the very top of the priority list.

“We put all climbers through a five-day program, and we pay for the training. You just can’t do this kind of work without a huge commitment to safety.”

Teaching Safety and Inspiring Kids in Las Vegas

Safety is priority #1 at Alamon Wireless Services, and Alamon’s multi-talented Jonathan Bronson (who is also a professional BMX cyclist) incorporates that safety emphasis into his community volunteer work.

Jonathan recently teamed up with the Clark County School District Police Department and the Las Vegas Department of Public Safety to promote pop up helmet giveaways at local skate parks.

Alamon recently passed a home-office audit through the Coalition for Construction Safety (CCS). The audit confirmed that our company has a strong commitment to safety and performs to industry standards. One customer requested we obtain the certification so we can provide a full spectrum of services, including power-box inspection. The safety of our employees and customers alike has always been one of Alamon’s top priorities.

We’ve been working Safely on the Railroad!

The last year was a memorable one for Alamon, and one of the highlights was working with our newest railroad customer, BNSF.

Since beginning our relationship with BNSF less than a year ago, we’ve learned about the company’s needs and operating environment to become one of their service suppliers, and successfully and safely completed our first round of BNSF projects.

Alamon and BNSF cultures have turned out to be a good match, with safety and quality ranking as high priorities for both companies. We are excited to continue our relationship with BNSF, as well as working to strengthen the data and communications infrastructures of all our transportation customers.

Safe Environment Training

No Shortcuts to Driving Safety

Road safety for employees and others is a high priority for Alamon and we demonstrate our commitment through emphasizing safe driving practices and vehicle maintenance.

In addition to educating all employees on defensive driving, we perform routine bumper to bumper inspections on all company vehicles. Tires, brakes, lights, turn signals, windshields, wipers and other vehicle components are checked regularly to ensure they’re in top condition. If issues are identified, maintenance or repairs are scheduled in a timely manner.

Having staff with general knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair helps in the ongoing effort to ensure employee and public safety. It also keeps costs down, savings we can then pass on to our customers.
